International Students


Health insurance is mandatory while studying in the US, and is automatically purchased for you and charged to your university account. Your SPRING tuition bill will show the SPRING/SUMMER insurance fee.

Waiver applications can be completed online during the open enrollment/waiver period:

1.Go to www.aetnastudenthealth.com2.click on WMU from the drop-down list in the upper right corner.
3.Select menu option International students enroll/waive.
The waiver deadline is May 18.


The requirements for a private insurance are:

 

•Minimum of $75,000 coverage per injury or sickness (including hospitalization).


•Deductible no higher than $350.


•Minimum of 80% coverage after the deductible is met.


•Minimum of $750 prescription coverage.


•Minimum of $500 outpatient mental health coverage.


•Minimum of $10,000 inpatient mental health coverage.


•Minimum of $1,000 physical therapy coverage.
•Must cover maternity expenses.
•Must be translated into English.
Must cover a pre-existing condition after 6 months, or continue covering a pre-existing condition if student had at least 6 months of prior insurance coverage. •Must have at least $10,000 medical evacuation and $7,500 repatriation benefits.


•NEW STUDENTS - Coverage must be in effect the day you arrive in the US or by the first day of SPRING classes at the absolute latest (January 9) and continue through the end of Summer II (August 23).•You will have ONE opportunity per school year to waive.•MAKE SURE YOUR PRIVATE POLICY COVERS ALL SEMESTERS YOU PLAN TO ENROLL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 2011–2012 SCHOOL YEAR.TOP
